Departure Date and Official StartGlenn officially started his circumnavigation Sunday, September 23, 2007 at 21 hours 10 minutes 50 seconds GMT (2:10 p.m. local time).
Ok,
I just ran into my friends wife at the local watering hole and learnt that my buddy has untied the lines while I was away traveling. I learnt that he departed on September 23th, 2007. Glenn Wakefield will attempt a solo, non-stop circumnavigation west about from Victoria, British Columbia, making him the first sailor to attempt the voyage from North America. Glenn will sail Kim Chow, his Phil Rhodes designed Offshore 40′ sloop built by Cheoy Lee in Hong Kong in 1969. For more than 4 years, Glenn has been making extensive modifications to Kim Chow, preparing her for the rigors of sailing offshore for approximately 10 months.
Our thoughts are with you buddy! Enjoy the sail…
To assist others to follow Kim Chow and Glenn around the world I will make sure our blog is updated. For more please follow along @:
Smooth Sailing,
Dale

Boy – I wish we had one of these guys!
Day 12 – Aug 19th
Today the autohelm quit on us. I learnt that at the end of the drive rod is a little toothed plastic wheel that had worn out from the past 3500 NM. I tried fixing it by tightening the belt but the wheel continued to spin freely within the autohelm 5000. Boy, I wish I had done my homework on those little wheels. When I returned home after 17 days of hand steering, I learnt that I could have avoided hand steering if I purchased a metal replacement wheel for $5.00 cdn.

Dick Hobbis got the fright of his life shortly before noon on Monday when a large sailboat, moored off the passenger ferry dock on Newcastle Island, blew up right in front of him.
The skipper of one of the Nanaimo Harbour Ferries ‘pickle’ boats said he was pulling up to the dock just before noon, when the 62-foot schooner Chebucto blew apart and sank.
“At first, I thought it was the noon cannon going off at the Bastion but realized it was way too loud and close for that,” he said.
“Then I turned and saw a huge explosion and pieces of the boat flying high into the air. The explosion lifted the entire top of the boat off and then it collapsed back down and the ship closed in on itself and sank within minutes.” Read More…
